Splendour in the Grass Line-up
Heyya Danny, just saw your post for Splendour =) Don’t think it was as good as last year’s line-up, but the shift in dynamics is pretty interesting. The higher focus on hip hop is pretty cool, and the headliners are a pretty disparate bunch haha (Kanye, Coldplay and Jane’s Addiction as headliners - craziness!) I probably won’t go this year (it’ll happen eventually...

THURSDAY: Magnets Caught In a Metal Heart →
I’m quite the Thursday fan-boy, so new material from the New Jersey crew is always exciting. Described by frontman Geoff Rickley as more ‘graceful and sweeping’ than previous releases, new single ‘Magnets Caught In a Metal Heart’ sees Thursday trading in  their post-hardcore fire for rich, synth-driven atmospheres. And it’s fantastic! The track pulses with a...

B-boys, bebop and blast-beats (continued)
In keeping to one of my main intentions in starting up this blog, here’s a list of all things yummy and musical that have been putting a smile on my dial in the past week. Expect a few B-boys, a touch of bebop and a smattering of blast-beats - oh, a lot of frothing at the mouth =)  Enjoy! B-boys, bebop and blast-beats: John's Week in...
Seeing as I got a bit carried away with ranting about musical morsels of awesomeness, my post will be divided into two parts: PART 1: Wow, it definitely feels like a long time between posts in my neck of the woods. Between the last time I posted and now I’ve participated in two group shows (my first two too!), turned 21, travelled to the Hunter Valley with my girlfriend, and finished the...

Songs of the week
Another week, another batch of songs that have tickled my fancy… I’ve been going back in time and rediscovering bands that I’ve neglected as of late - namely the UK’s noisecore powerhouse Beecher (who have recently reformed for a small number of shows) and one of my favourite bands, Japanese post-rock/screamo juggernauts ENVY! The latter will be releasing a new album on...

Songs of the week
Here’s a list of some songs that I’ve been seriously macking on in the past week. I’m always interested in the idea of sharing music, so it’d be great to hear what you’ve been digging recently too. I’m thinking of making this a weekly feature, so if you have any recommendations, or want to share some lovin’ for some good ol’ D-beat hardcore...
