Here’s a quick water-colour/ink/pen-drawing I made for my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day. I’m not too sure if it was the excess of schmaltzy romantic pollen in the air making me giddy, but I REALLY enjoyed this little project. For once in quite a while I got over my lazy artistic slump, and it felt great - both to finally complete a work, and to put a smile on my girlfriend’s dial =)
Speaking of Britt, she’s awesome! While we didn’t do anything too out of the ordinary for Valentine’s Day, it made me realise a few things. Firstly, sharing slightly-cold pizza on the train home is kinda romantic. And not in the John Cusack/ Meg Ryan romantic comedy sense… More in the ‘eating dinner on a train is kinda rad - You’re rad - THIS IS RAD’ sense (I envision Seth Rogen narrating that line for some reason, maybe in some incredulous stoner drawl). Slurpees are also romantic… Unless you spill it all over the counter while you’re paying for them haha! Underlying all this supposed fast-food worship though is a validation of something I’ve always known - that it’s the little quirks in our relationship that bring us the most happiness.
Second thing I realised. After more than two years together, people can  become pretty intuitive to your partner’s interests. Case in point: Britt managed to track down the rare, out of print John Safran ‘Not the Sunscreen Song’ single from a distro in Melbourne. This combines too many of my loves: obscure records, JOHN SAFRAN, and hilariously inappropriate songs with enough sardonic smart-arsery to make even Steve Albini blush.  Needless to say I was incredibly stoked!
What a present! What a keeper!
